AVRE is a private, non-profit organization that creates opportunities for success and independence with people who are blind or visually impaired. Serving the Southern Tier of New York for over 90 years, we are committed to making a positive difference in our community. Whether you or a loved one are facing vision loss, we are here to help.
Services Overview
Our Vision Rehabilitation Services are offered completely free of charge, designed to enhance quality of life and promote independence for individuals with vision impairments. We offer:

• Vision Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT): Training in essential skills for daily living and work, including household tasks, technology use, and personal finance management.

• Low Vision Exams: Specialized assessments to determine vision needs, with recommendations for tools and adjustments to make the most of remaining vision.

• Orientation & Mobility Training: Guidance on navigating safely at home and in the community, building confidence for independent movement.

• Case Management & Support Services: Practical support with counseling, resources, and benefits guidance tailored to individual needs.
- • Functional Vision Assessments and Vision Impairment Connect Program: Assessments and adaptive equipment to promote independence for those with vision loss who aren’t legally blind.
